Lance
Corporal Justin Thomas
Royal Marines
During
an attack by 40 Commando on 30 March, Lance Corporal
Thomas' troop was ambushed. Choosing to abandon
a position of safety, Thomas manned a machine-gun
on the top of a soft-skin vehicle, fully exposed
to enemy fire. For about a quarter of an hour,
he engaged the enemy, allowing his comrades to
get into cover, regroup and mount a successful
counter-attack.

Lance
Corporal of Horse Michael Flynn
The Blues & Royals
The
commander of a Scimitar reconnaissance vehicle
of D Squadron of the Household Cavalry Regiment,
LCoH Flynn was involved in several notable actions
against enemy heavy armour. In particular, he
located an enemy tank battalion and supporting
artillery. Despite coming under heavy Iraqi fire,
he called in artillery and air support with devastating
accuracy which destroyed the enemy units as effective
combat formations.
